An autoclave is a device used in the laboratory to sterilize glassware (test tubes, bottles, pipettes), metal instruments (blades, scissors), powders (sulfadiazine, starch, zinc oxide), and materials containing oil and glass test tubes, and other materials that cannot be sterilized by moist heat because they either spoil or are not effectively sterilized.
